The rehabilitation pedagogues work in social assistance establishments, recuperation and rehabilitation centers, day centers, child protection public institutions or other institutions designed to assist the needs of people with disabilities. They collaborate with educators, psychologists, social workers and doctors in order to care, educate, recuperate and integrate socially people in need.
Currently in Romania, only two colleges train rehabilitation pedagogues, in Sibiu and Timisoara so there is a great demand for skilled personnel, as until now the training of social workers was insufficient and unable to fully respond the needs of the patients. The training lasts 2 years. Every month, for two weeks students follow theoretical and practical courses and during the remaining 2 weeks of the month students work as interns in the institutions where they will later be employed as full time workers, provided that this institutions address the needs of disabled people.
As graduates of “Olga Sturza” Vocational College for Rehabilitation Pedagogues, the students are awarded diplomas recognized by the Ministry of Labor, Social Solidarity and Family, the Ministry of Education and Research and by the Ministry of Health. The content and duration of the training abide by the European Commission level 2 standards, namely pre-university education.
This project is supported by the Government of Bavaria Land, Germany (Munich), the “Robert Bosch” Foundation, Germany and by the “Solidarity and Hope” Foundation - the Metropolitanate of Moldova and Bucovina.
